Out of school services can take various forms, but mainly comprise of breakfast clubs, after school clubs or holiday provision.  Some schemes are based at schools, while others have their own premises, and offer a pick-up service from schools. Childminders also provide out of school services.

Out of school services can be registered and inspected by OfSTED (Office for Standards in Education) provided they are caring for children aged under eight years of age for more than two hours a day.
