Parent Champions

What is it?

Parent Champions is a parent to parent outreach programme.  Parent Champions are parent volunteers who spend a few hours a week linking with other local parents to share information about childcare, local services and the benefits to their child of taking up their free early education place.

How can parent champions help you?

If you're confused about your options for childcare and other services, our Parent Champions can guide you through what's available.  They will share their own experiences and the struggles with childcare as a parent.  They can give you advice and let you know what has helped make parenting easier for them.  We're very lucky to have Parent Champions from different ethnic groups. So far, we have recruited Parent Champions from a wide range of ethnic communities.

We have Parent Champions who speak the following languages:

  • English
  • Bengali
  • French
  • Gujerati
  • Hindi
  • Somali
  • Urdu

If you want to know more about what childcare entitlements are on offer and would like to speak to someone that speaks a community language, please get in touch with our Parent Champion Co-ordinator who can put you in touch with someone who can speak your language.

How to contact a Parent Champion

You can contact parent champions via our Parent Champion co-ordinator.  You can email a request to: Parent.Champions@newham.gov.uk.

Becoming a Parent Champion volunteer

We are always on the lookout for volunteers! Anyone with experience of being a parent can be a Parent Champion.  If you like the idea of volunteering for a few hours each week to reach out to local parents to share your experiences of childcare and providing information and guidance, then becoming a Parent Champion may be for you.  Our Parent Champion Co-ordinator can assist in providing specialised training to our Parent Champions to help us reach other parents.

If you would like to be a Parent Champion volunteer, please get in touch with our Parent Champion Co-ordinator to complete a form - which you can view to the right of this page.
