Caritas Anchor House
Caritas Anchor House aims to help their residents identify and address and finally overcome the root causes of why someone is homeless.
They help residents to tackle life's barriers and obstacles so they realise and accept for themselves that they have the skills and talents necessary to be happy and successful in life. They help residents move on into their own accomodation.
They run an aspirations programme to support individuals in their journey from homelessness into sustained independent living. Areas covered:
- Health and wellbeing
- Education, training and employment
- Financial management
- Independent living
Anchor house also provides:
- 1:2:1 support from a keyworker
- space for support groups to meet including AA and Cocaine anonymous
- Employment support
- Volunteering programme
We accept single, homeless adults aged 18 to 65, with a connection to the London Borough of Newham.
We are keen to work with those who have experienced homelessness and have demonstrated a commitment to take active steps back into independent living.
We work in partnership with referral agencies, rather than managing individual referrals directly.
Referrals come primarily from the London Borough of Newham’s Housing Options Team, but we also accept referrals direct from prison, refugee councils, Newham hospitals and specialist substance misuse agencies. Each year we receive around 600 referrals for our 140 bed spaces, and therefore operate a waiting list.
