Occupational Therapy (OT)
The Royal College of Occupational Therapists defines OT as the provision of support which empowers people to overcome the barriers preventing them from taking part in certain activities or occupations.
For children and young people, OT is particularly targeted at helping those with a physical or learning disability to develop independence in a range of daily activities and practical tasks to ensure they can live their life to their full potential. This may include support around functional activities such as eating, going to the toilet, playing, walking and running, writing, playing games and sports and keeping clean.
The service works with a range of needs including children with Down’s syndrome, physical disabilities, cerebral palsy, dyspraxia, and autism where there are functional concerns, up to age 18.
